Volunteer stories

After losing my baby, I wanted to help ensure affected families are heard and involved in improving services. The MNVP has given me opportunities to influence conversations that matter.

Amanda, Affected Family Volunteer

As a Black mother in Nottingham, I know representation matters. I wanted to help ensure more voices are heard and help improve outcomes for local families.

Simone, Volunteer

My neonatal experience inspired me to get involved so that future families benefit from lessons learned through lived experience.

Reaching every community

Help us reach more communities

We are particularly interested in hearing from communities whose voices are often missing from conversations about maternity and neonatal care.

If you work with any of these communities, we would love to hear from you.

  • Black and Black mixed heritage families
  • South Asian communities
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • Young parents
  • Families affected by poverty
  • Disabled parents
  • Parents with learning disabilities
  • Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities
  • Families whose first language is not English
  • Bereaved families and families of mothers and babies who have experienced harm

Community visits

Could your organisation benefit from a visit?

We are building relationships with community organisations, support groups and local leaders across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, particularly in communities experiencing inequalities in maternity care.

If your organisation would benefit from an MNVP listening visit, we would love to hear from you.

  • Parent and baby groups
  • Faith and cultural organisations
  • Refugee and asylum-seeker support services
  • Community centres and grassroots projects
  • Disability and accessibility networks
  • Bereavement, baby loss and harmed-families support groups
