Meet the team

Meet the people behind Nottingham & Nottinghamshire MNVP.

The MNVP is made up of staff, volunteers, parents, community representatives and people with lived experience who are passionate about improving maternity and neonatal care across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Every improvement starts with listening.

Mesha Stewart

Mesha leads Nottingham & Nottinghamshire MNVP and is responsible for strengthening the organisation as an independent, trusted and influential voice for local families.

Her work focuses on meaningful co-production, community engagement, volunteer development and ensuring lived experience directly influences maternity and neonatal service improvement.

Mesha has extensive experience working alongside communities, building trusted relationships and creating opportunities for people to share their experiences and influence change.

My focus is on strengthening the MNVP as an independent, trusted voice for all families, while building stronger relationships with affected families and communities facing the greatest inequalities in maternity care. This work spans every part of the system, from NUH and Sherwood Forest Hospitals to community midwifery, neonatal services and voluntary and community organisations across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

People are experts in their own experiences. The role of the MNVP is to ensure those experiences influence decisions, improvements and outcomes.

Our commitment

Reaching the voices too often missing from the conversation

One of my priorities is ensuring the MNVP reaches beyond the people who already know about us and connects with families whose voices are too often missing from conversations about maternity and neonatal care.

We want to build meaningful relationships with communities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and create opportunities for everyone to influence the services they use.

Our volunteers

Lived experience. Local voices. Real change.

Our volunteers bring a wide range of lived experiences and perspectives. They help gather feedback, support engagement activities, represent community voices and work alongside maternity and neonatal services to improve care.

The strength of the MNVP comes from the diversity of people involved.

Affected Family Volunteer

Following the loss of my baby, I wanted to help ensure families are listened to and involved in improving services. Through the MNVP I have been able to contribute to conversations that help shape future maternity care.

As a Black mother in Nottingham, I wanted to help improve representation and ensure more voices are heard. The MNVP provides an opportunity to influence positive change for local families.

My neonatal experience inspired me to get involved. I wanted to help make sure future families benefit from the lessons learned from lived experience.

How we work

From listening to lasting change.

A simple, transparent cycle that turns the voices of local families into real improvements and closes the loop by telling families what changed.

  1. Step 01

    Listen

    We hear directly from families.

  2. Step 02

    Understand

    We identify themes and priorities.

  3. Step 03

    Influence

We take those insights into provider and system discussions.

  4. Step 04

    Improve

Services make changes informed by lived experience.

  5. Step 05

    Feedback

We tell families how their voices helped shape change.
